Hi ... here's an update on OpenSolaris User Group Projects:

* Total OpenSolaris User Group Projects: 51
* UGs opened and/or project migrations complete: 20
* UG projects created (hidden) with migrations underway: 20
* UGs not responding to migration requests: 10
* New UG proposals approved but project(s) not open yet: 1
* UGs deleted: 5
* New UG proposals currently under consideration: 0

Some Issues:

Deleted Groups: I deleted 5 UGs this week because the leaders either 
left completely, told met to delete them, were not responding, or had 
lists with no subscribers and no activity but with spam filters jammed 
with thousands and thousands of spam messages. Dead groups, basically, 
that had abandoned the infrastructure. There will be more of these.

Migrations: I'll make another round of pings next week to the UGs that 
are not responding or that have migrations under way to hopefully move 
more of them along. If you have your project migration instructions from 
me, let me know when you are ready to open. If you have not responded to 
my mails yet and are ready to get started now, let me know so I can set 
up a project for you. Time is running out.

DEADLINE: On Friday, August 31st (Tokyo time), I'm going to delete the 
old User Group Community, so any content left in that community at that 
time will be gone. I've been deleting stuff as people move over to 
projects and I've moved other stuff, but there is still some UG content 
there. So, if you have migrations under way, you have about four weeks 
left. We started this on July 4, so two months should be more than 
sufficient and we have to move on.

UG Kits: I have a proposal in to the Sun kernel engineering team to fund 
the creation of OpenSolaris UG Kits (t-shirts, books, starter kits). 
It's just a very basic kit to start, but they will be for everyone. I'll 
let you know when (if) I get my money and when (if) we can start taking 
orders and shipping.
