Hi everyone,
We've been discussing the Innovation Award program announced last week. We've come
up with a starting point for a broader discussion and we'd like to request an Advocacy
CG mailing list -- awards-program at opensolaris.org -- so we can manage the program there
and keep track of our progress over on the Genunix.
We'd like your participation to define the details of the program. Things like the
definition of entries, the number of individual prizes, the payout amount, the method
of judging entries, the criteria on which the entries will be judged, the method of
submission, recruiting judges and more.
Award Entries will fall into two distinct programs with a total of $175,000 in prize
awards. The first program will focus on undergraduate student research and will
have a total proposed purse of $75,000. The second program will likely focus on
contributions in these four categories with a proposed distribution of the remaining
$100,000:
- Device Drivers - $25,000
- Applications and Packaging - $25,000
- Documentation - $25,000
- Wildcard - To be defined by the project - $25,000
All eligible contributions will be considered for an award and the distribution of the
funds may vary based on the contributions received.
We'll have open discussions and conference calls. Participants are expected to attend
calls on a weekly basis at a minimum, and more likely two or three times per week between
now and mid-January when the program is announced. After the program announcement, the
team will meet regularly to monitor and manage the award program.
Come join us!
