The one reason that should *not* contribute for the selection of the
mascot/logo is
- taking potshots at one of the successful FOSS projects that has
found its place in the desktops of the people through years of
hardwork.

There have been suggestions of shark that eats a penguin and such.
Such a basis would be way too narrow.

Moreover I wouldn't at all be happy to sport such a mascot/logo on my
laptop/car/presentation-slides/banners/website or wherever it might be
a candidate to find a place.

I think Donal's and Jim's earlier posts in this thread are good
starting points and more appropriate line of thinking
