I would actually guess that Yogi is more of a black bear (ursus
americanus) then a brown bear (ursus actos) due to the lack of hump.
OTOH he lacks obvious hooked claws and has smaller ears. Black bears
come in a suprising range of colors so that isn't a strong indicator.
I've seen ones ranging from almost blond to black with cinnamon brown
being the most common in the wild.
But more seriously I think Wolverine's (Gulo gulo) having a fearsome
reputation as being one of the toughest animals in the forests could
well be used to represent a lean mean bad-ass operating system. A
story from the Sierra Nevada gold country in the late 1800s tells about
a pony express rider/well known rancher/or the like running across one
of these creatures chaseing two bears (probably ursus actos) off a kill.
