I agree, something like that is needed. So what sponsoring CG
(Community Group) should the existing ports projects, SFW,
Companion, and pkgbase (SFE), belong to?

My 2 cents: How about suggesting that they jointly become
sponsored by the Installation CG? It's kind of a good fit,
and it's also now the official sponsoring CG for the Indiana
(OpenSolaris distro) project.
