  Polar Bear : Ursus maritimus

The polar bear is the most carnivorous member of the bear family, and
the one that is most likely to prey on humans as food. It feeds mainly
on seals, especially ringed seals that poke holes in the ice to breathe,
but will eat anything it can kill: birds, rodents, shellfish, crabs,
beluga whales, young walruses, occasionally musk oxen or reindeer, and
  very occasionally other polar bears.

That seems appropriate. A mascot that will attack and eat its own kind.

Well, it can be made cute and white as a teddy bear or a really scary
nasty mascot that kills everything it sees,

  That also seems appropriate.

I can only think of a one other animal at the moment. The mouse. The
plain old house mouse with cute ears and it can get into anywhere. Often
seen as a pest. Sometimes used in laboratories. Can be a pet. Sort of
diversified. It is very quiet unless it needs to burrow through a wall.

I'm just thinking by way of my keyboard here.
