    House Mouse (Mus musculus)

live in close proximity to humans. Laboratory mice belong to strains of

and medicine; they are by far the most commonly used laboratory mammal.

    Those people at PIXAR and Disney know what they are doing and I can
think of half a dozen animated films where a mouse was a leading
character.  It is cute, real smart, a survivor and if left unchecked it
will take over completely.
