Darren,

So we'd want a graphic illustrating diversity, passion and growth. I
agree. But the polar bear?

Hmm .. all polar bears are the same color. .. so much for diversity.

Are polar bears really passionate? Actually I don't think it's worth
subjecting oneself to the considerable danger it would take to find that
out.! :-)

As for growth, latest reports seem to indicate the polar bear
population trend is heading the wrong way. In fact, unlike say
penguins, polar bears are well on the way to being considered an
endangered species. Probably not the best avatar for OpenSolaris
developers.

And speaking of penguins, we might well be accused of plagiarizing the
theme of the Linux mascot (open operating system = arctic/antarctic
winter animal), pretty much sticking Berkeley BSD Unix with the walrus!

My vote is for the raccoon. Aside from being omnivorous, and clever
enough to live in a decent climate (unlike its more unfortunate
competitors), the black band around the eyes would convey the subtle
message that if you adopt this OS, you'll make out like a bandit!

Regards,

Ronk
