Sorry, I didn't mean that Linux chose the Penguin because of the
Daemon. Merely that Linus did not invent the notion of an OS having a
cute mascot.
I have no idea what motivated his choice. I don't doubt your story, I
simply never paid attention to Penguin origin stories ;>
Prior to BSD, I can't think of a cute OS mascot (IBM's various OS's,
Univac's, Multics, RT-11, VMS, etc.). So I think that the credit for
clever mascot "branding" of an OS goes to the team at Cal.
MHO of course.
