Proposal for JIIT University OpenSolaris User Group Project (JIITU-OSUG)

Purpose: To drive awareness and adoption of OpenSolaris among the
students and faculty at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology
University (http://jiit.ac.in).

Project Description: The purpose of this project is to drive
OpenSolaris awareness amongst students and faculty in JIIT University.
I and other future members of this group want to increase OpenSolaris
adoption in labs and student projects in our University. As one of my
responsibilities as Sun Campus Ambassador, I will organize and lead
the Sun OpenSolaris User Group on our campus. I will organize
meetings, conduct tech demos and presentations on topics about
OpenSolaris during the meetings and encourage fellow students,
researchers and faculty on campus to join this user group. The user
group would also collaborate and work with other nearby Open Solaris
User Groups in the National Capital Region of India.

The project will also archive its contributions like student projects,
presentations, documentation and other material to the project space
on the OpenSolaris site.

Project Needs: This project requires project space on OpenSolaris.org
site. The project also requires a mailing list. Suggested list name is
ug-jiituosug at opensolaris dot org.

Related Projects:  The group will plan to closely monitor the
activities of nearby OSUGs, as well as the user groups of other Campus
Ambassadors in the region in order to seek out opportunities for
collaborative OpenSolaris promotion.

Proposed Activities:  The group will plan to initiate workshops and
user group meetings on campus with a focus on promoting the
competitive advantages of OpenSolaris for research, development and
teaching. We will conduct install fests, workshops, tech demos/talks,
and other promotional activities as guided by the Sun Campus
Ambassador Program. Further activities will be determined as demand
and our community grow.
