[advocacy-discuss] OpenSolaris "Phoenix" Mascot

I am aware that this is a topic that goes back to 2005 from what I can see
on google results..

But I do think the time is now that the OpenSolaris community agrees on a
mascot and brand identity to push OpenSolaris which really is making huge
leaps forward now.

The first mascot that came to my mind was a Phoenix. Probably rising out of
the Solaris "flames" that shows a rebirth of Solaris, an evolution of its
past heritage, a symbol of strength and power.

I googled "phoenix" and OpenSolaris and found many hits going way back to
2005, many people saw it as an obvious choice.

I wonder what people think of the idea?

I am aware of the legal problems with "Phoenix Technologies" but I dont see
that as a problem.

I am not that impressed with existing branding attempts such as "open
solaris bubbles etc" which seem vague and boring and looks like something
youd buy at a hippy market ;-)

The current use of the "iconic flames" for solaris is a good idea and could
be incorporated in a phoenix mascot.

Is there any official effort underway from Sun to seriously brand
OpenSolaris at the moment?

Cheers
