Hey, Philip, Alan C is on to something here. In Sept. there'll be an 
official OpenSolaris Student Pack with new live CD and an accompanying 
DVD that includes Virtual Box installers and a pre-configured 
OpenSolaris VDI. Could have students running OpenSolaris  (with set of 
dev tools included) in 10 minutes or so. (The DVD will include a nice 
set of English and localized/translated docs to help get users 
up-and-running, too.)
