Hi Jim,
Thanks for the pre-approval, and apologize for taking so long to respond. After some thoughts, I think instead of waiting for the perfect moment, it will be much better to get the Hawaii OSUG formally formed and see how things take care of themselves.
Thus, I am proposing the formation of an OpenSolaris User Group in Hawaii. Its name will be "Hawaii OpenSolaris UserGroup" (HOSUG). The OpenSolaris User IDs of the three initial participants are: waynel (W. Wayne Liauh), joelaris (Joe Linux), and pwzhangz (Ping-Wu Zhang), and its contact info is: W. Wayne Liauh, Hawaii Linux Institute, 4224 Waialae Ave., Suite 5388, Honolulu, HI 96816 .
Initially and as the first step, we will define a hardware (desktop/laptop) system so that users can comfortably pursue a long-term relationship with OpenSolaris. At the present time, our activities will be limited to Oahu, and we hope to alternate meetings between the Leeward and the Windward sides. In the longer run, because of the cultural diversities of Hawaii, we would like to also populate OpenSolaris into the Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, etc., communities in Hawaii.
