Project Proposal: Porto Alegre OpenSolaris User Group (PoA-OSUG)

Purpose: To drive awareness and adoption of OpenSolaris in the Porto
Alegre area and within the Brazilian OpenSolaris community.

List of Community Groups Sponsoring the project:
   	Advocacy Community Group

List of project team members:
Vitório Sassi (OS id: vfcsassi), primary contact
   	Rafael Vanoni (OS id: rafaelv)
   	Cristiano Basso (OS id: csbasso)

Project Description:

The purpose of this project is to drive OpenSolaris awareness and
adoption among Porto Alegre residents, targeting both the academic and
the professional communities. We have seen a growing number of
interested users and open source enthusiasts in this area and we intend
to consolidate our efforts into this user group.

The core members of this project are bringing an existing OS community
based at a local university to this new city wide user group, taking
advantage of the momentum built around OpenSolaris in our region. This
community has been growing steadily and requires a proper infrastructure.

Project Needs:

This project requires space on the opensolaris.org portal and a mailing
list. Suggested list name is poa-osug at opensolaris dot org.

Related Projects:

We intend to work closely with the Brazilian OpenSolaris Portal
(br.opensolaris.org) and other OSUGs in our country to help drive
awareness and share knowledge through talks, tutorials and related material.

Proposed activities:

We plan on establishing a calendar of monthly meetings and talks about
OpenSolaris technologies in universities, open source events and within
interested companies. The presentation material resulting from those
talks will be made available on our website.

We are also in close contact with existing open source user groups and
will continue to collaborate with those communities. And we will
continue to participate in the yearly International Free Software Forum,
which is held in Porto Alegre every year and similar events.
