Proposal for Republic of Serbia OpenSolaris User Group Project (RS-OSUG)

Purpose: To drive awareness and adoption of OpenSolaris in the Republic of
Serbia.

Project Description: The purpose of this project is to drive OpenSolaris
awareness amongst student and professional community in this country.
The target audience will be mostly students and UNIX enthusiasts.
We perceive that a significant number of UNIX enthusiasts in this country
will be
interested in learning more about OpenSolaris and related technologies.
We want to encourage adoption of OpenSolaris in student projects, and to
contribute
documentation and small code changes back to the community.


We want to increase OpenSolaris
adoption in labs and student projects.

The project will also archive its contributions like student projects,
presentations, and other material to the project space on the
OpenSolaris site.


Project Needs: This project requires project space on OpenSolaris.org
site. The project also requires a mailing list. Suggested list name is
ug-rsosug at opensolaris.org.

Related Projects: We would like to closely watch the successful
OpenSolaris user
groups and see if we can work with them to do related activities.


Proposed activities:
Since this would be first OSUG in our country, we will send invitation
mail to everyone
interested in OpenSolaris to join us. We will make calendar of meetings,
lectures and workshops.
We plan to have install fests at least 4 times a year. We already have our
Lab (with couple of old SUN hardware and PC-s)
for workshops. All this events will be annonunsed on our website.
We have contacts with other open source groups in our country and we will
continue to collaborate with them.
