I think its' a very useful information vehicle, and I would like to see it continue to be used, but with some editorial discretion...
This doesn't have to be the most bleeding edge news even, and could include "Sun" news that affects OpenSolaris features or direction etc...
The thing it does need though is to be positive stuff, or at least worthy of debate. People's goal when they visit are generally positive ones, and it would make sense to use the news section in an edited way at least avoid creating FUD with people who might not know enough to see the untruths in some of those News items...
For all that matter, it might be a good spot to link with authoritative corrections to bogus news items too... I mean, if there's a news link out there that's getting play about OpenSolaris, and it's filled with BS and crap, why not use this facility to publicly correct the offending material?
News helps keep a site perception 'fresh', so I think it's important to presentation for new people, but it's also a useful feature for the rest of us too. I don't want to see the idea tossed, but it does need some thought and work to fix what's going on now...
I also realize these changes could be a PITA but I think it's worth doing it too.
Tim
