It could be if we wanted it to be.

Anticipating Centrino 2's release, perhaps someone who knows what's going on (inside Sun) could have arranged to have a blog written specifically for that purpose, which can then be released synchronously with Intel's announcement. It's a pity that we are totally in the dark. :-(

Well corp announcements are always kept to a relatively few number of
people even inside the company, so don't take it personally. :) I had no
clue about the Intel announcement, and if Sun were involved I'd not even
see that until it hit the press. That's just an example. However, I
think it's fine if marketing wanted to post OpenSolaris-related
announcements to opensolaris-announce and then post the resulting news
coverage to the News page. I don't think anyone wants corporate press
releases on advocacy-discuss, though, and it's not even necessary to
post the full press release on opensolaris-announce. Just a pointer to
big news would be helpful with a sentence or two of summary.

This is an important issue (especially in terms of wanting the general public to submit patent-invalidating prior art), but we just forgot about it. It is much easier to herd the general public to follow our own (improved) version of Slashdot, which would have picked up Mike's blog, than the hundreds of Sun blogs.
I think we should all feel free to post issues to advocacy-discuss for
discussion. You read something you feel is important and want kick it
around on list. Do it. Information is distributed so much that no one
can keep track of it all.
