Aaron has been running a Java Champion program for a while, which is quite similar to the one proposed here, but targeting at people who are actively contributing to the promotion and adoption of the Java programming language I believe this new program  will also boost the awareness and adoption of OpenSolaris.

I think it makes sense - throw some additional support towards those
people who are out there evangelizing OpenSolaris.  It gets good
leverage for Sun's investment.
