I don't think they are meant to - those are mascots, not logos  
(FreeBSD has a logo too - I'm not aware that Linux does though). The  
wordmark isn't going away, and I hope we're also going to end up with  
a mascot to stand hand-in-hand with Tux and the demon. As most of you  
know I hope that will be a polar bear. With sunglasses.
