A huge +1 to all points made here.
I would suggest a genunix wiki page and a mailer to advocacy-discuss.

[1] Genunix because, access is available to all by default for the
purpose of updating.
[2] Changes on genunix wiki are versioned and if there is a need to
revert a change, it allows it via history.

I believe [1] is possible in TML but not [2].
