Replying to my own post (I know, but I'm back at a computer now and
have time to flesh this out a bit more)

I spent a bit more time on this today, and have the following:

- worth pursuing, or is this all a bit late? If there's blank templates
of the t-shirts, caps, bags & hoodies, I'd be happy to paste this
design on them to show you what it could look like?

The logo was drawn with inkscape, using the "bitstream vera sans" font,
only 4 colours + black or white, intended to be the same as the ones in
the existing circles logo (but I haven't sampled to get them exact yet)

Iterations on the above welcome!
