Rather than complain, why not do something constructive?
"Code talks", so why not go and work with David Comay (et.al.)
and do something to improve it?

An off-the-cuff suggestion:

Put all David's policy choices into a single package and tag it
with a custom attribute that says "this package sets up system
defaults".

Then go off and create another package that contains *your*
favorite defaults and tag it with the same tag.

Finally, as part of the install and packaging project, work with
Dave Miner to put some code in the installer that looks for all
the packages in the repo with that tag and, if more than one is
found, prompt the admin to choose what "personality" they wish to
apply to the system.

It probably wouldn't even take more time than we all have already
wasted complaining about the work that other people are doing... :-)
