Yes, I don't like that being on the menu, IMHO it should only be  
available via the Advanced button in the Visual Effects tab.  (Hence  
it's not in the menus in the OpenSolaris UI spec[1], but sadly we  
didn't get to implement that in time for 2008.05.)

So where would you put it?  (Bearing in mind that we probably don't  
really want to expose the term 'compiz' in the GUI.)

I wouldn't expect it to, doesn't work in VMware either.  I agree it  
would be good if the appropriate tests were run (and controls  
disabled) before you could click on them to find out.
