Forget the Linux/Gnome/... way of doing that and create a centralized  
point for setting user-preferences and even for system administration.

This is a long (and pretty old) and recurrent problem in Solaris,  
reported by users AND system admin. Don't you ever hear a Aix sysadmin  
shouting about the lack of smit in Solaris ?
This shall be a way to put OpenSolaris on the top list of Operating  
Systems.
