I agree with both the above but I find the "FUD"DY subject heading just that.
We all know what happened to all those Crusades now don't we.
I could care less if Linux Torvalds is on Microsoft's/aka Novell/ aka IBM's under the table payroll, along
with their RedHat/OpenSuse/and whatever next Distro is going to be their "milking" target.
In fact, some predict Windows and Linux will join someday -it'll be called "Windux".
yes, I am venting a bit here.
Why does the Linux's play up to these tactics ? I dunno,
Maybe Linus Torvald's King Richard is "Stall"ing a bit ;)
The ancestral heritage of (Open)Solaris and the BSD's are much more alike (kissing cousins) than any other NetOS's out there, with the exception of Apple's MacOSX today.-(again, another based on BSD-UNIX).

In my years working as a sysadmin, Solaris was/is the real McKoy. Unix 20 years ago is not the unix of today, and thats par for the course. Any good NetOS today must be based on its merits' alone, and not because it bears some silly marketing trademark name -"UNIX".
How many times do you see zfs, dtrace,... these are immeasurable
contributions by Sun -to a unix sysadmins' point of view.
I will always prefer Solaris(primatrily Sparc thusfar) for critical servers' hand down. I know, becuase that is all I've seen in the few critical Data-Centre's that I have worked in.
This obviously explains the "others" animosity towards OpenSolaris.

The Opensolaris community here worries about making OpenSolaris the best it can be, and I'm very glad they do. and more times than not -they DO it very successfully.

so keep up the good work guys/gals, and ignore all this FUD from outside, OR inside !
"...keep your enemies close, and your friends closer..."

-sorry...couldn't resist.

:)

Rick.
