I'm sure some have come across this already:
http://www.serverwatch.com/eur/article.php/3779821 While I have no
contacts at Sabre, or otherwise have any knowledge about their
environment, just from the description, it sounds a lot like 'we
happened to replace really old servers that we were paying lot of
money for support (because all vendors tend to charge more the older
the hardware get) with new servers and saved money, oh and by the way,
we switched from Solaris -> RedHat (even though that was largely to
the purported savings).
Any ideas on ways to respond to this, or anyone have any success
stories of Linux -> Solaris that could be floated around to counter
it? The problem is with most of the articles like this one, the real
details are missing, and instead all you see is 'dump Solaris, save
$$$' which (especially in the current climate) gets the attention of
the people who control pocket books. While it's mentioning Solaris,
I think there's still going to be a lot of bleedover into OpenSolaris
(especially for the less technially minded people out there), so I
think it's still a relevant advocacy concern, independent of whatever
reaction Sun might wish to take.
