I am a Java developer that got involved with OpenSolaris early on. I 
think that both DTrace and Chime are very good but I think it would also 
be helpful to point out the tools that OpenSolaris comes with "out of 
the box" for Java developers. You get Netbeans, Tomcat, and Glassfish, 
for example, installed that are ready to go when you first log in. The 
tools and environment geared towards developers will get you to try out 
OpenSolaris but DTrace, Zones, and ZFS will get you to stay.
