Just like BSD died when AT&T took away the closed parts in 4.4net? :-)

If the uptake/interest is there, someone will replace/reinvent those
closed parts (cf the emancipation project) and life will go on.  Until
then, the closed parts are available today in binary redistributable
form, so OpenSolaris can't be crippled by locking them away - they
have already escaped.
