from dtrace output it seems to be that /sbin/biosdev write "0x81 /pci at 0,0/pci-ide at 7,1/ide at 0/cmdk at 0,0" on my system while lucreate egrep after 0x80 and missed the entry (see output) below.
With the grub command map, it might be possible to switch the boot device disk to 0x80 but to me lucreate shouldn't assume it.
