As John Plocher and others have discussed previously
here (arc-discuss), we need to formalize a process whereby
OpenSolaris developers and other community members can
request specific ARC cases be "scrubbed" and released
(published). With this in mind, I'd like to submit the
following process draft for comment.
--Eric Boutilier
- Any OpenSolaris member can submit a request to
have an ARC case processed and released. The request
should be addressed to arc-discuss at OpenSolaris.org and
OpenSolaris-discuss at OpenSolaris.org. A justification
must accompany the request. Positive comments by
other OpenSolaris members become part of the request's
justification.
- An OpenSolaris ARC leader will enter the request, ASAP,
into a tracking queue[1].
- Within two weeks(?), new requests will be evaluated
and move from received status to either accepted
or deferred. Accepted requests will be assigned an
"ETA" (estimated time to release). Deferred requests
will be given a reason for the deferral, for example,
"insufficient resources relative to strength of request
justification".
- Any changes to the status of a request will result in
a change message being posted to arc-discuss (manually
for now).
- When a case release is completed, the case
will be published on the ARC community site:
http://opensolaris.org/os/community/arc
[1]: Initially this will likely be a simple (manually
edited) table residing under the ARC community web page,
looking something like the following:
Request Link Request Date Case requested Status ETA
------------ ------------ ------------- ------ ---
