I think that'd be quite a sad development, indeed.
What's the perceived need or underlying threat here? That someone
participating in OpenSolaris would try to sabotage OpenJDK or
vice-versa by voting badly? It seems a bit far-fetched.
One of the important design features of the ARC (as it stands today)
is that it covers everything, and doesn't respect organizational or
product boundaries. I think that's actually a good thing, so I'd be
rather reluctant to give it up without having an extant case where
we're stuck.
Perhaps all that's needed is the ability to delegate in cases where it
makes sense. We already have the ability to steer clear (within the
confines of a given case) from areas where some outside authority has
control (such as with standards bodies), so how is this substantially
different?
