Hi list:

As part of getting vpnc to build on Belenix 0.7.1a, I need to build vtun.
The 32 bit version builds cleanly, but will only load into a 32 bit
kernel. I wanted to see if I could get a 64 bit version to build.

I modified the makefile to set -m64. This uses the gcc compiler.
Here's what I get during a make install
Warning: 64-bit version of driver found at /usr/kernel/drv/tun.
Place (tun) driver in correct location and run devfsadm -i tun.
System configuration files modified but tun driver not loaded or attached.

When I fun devfsadm -i tun, here's what I get:
sriram at sunshine:~/builds/tun-1.1$ pfexec devfsadm -i tun
devfsadm: driver failed to attach: tun

I'm going to reboot into a 32 bit mode and will then run the vtun
installer again.

   You need to copy the 64Bit driver into /usr/kernel/drv/amd64

nothing happened
Seeing this, i decided to run a "pfexec /usr/bin/gui-install" from konsole.

It dumps core with the message
"Bus Error : Core dumped" and I see a 75M core file in my home dir.

I am trying to do a bare metal install on my Acer Aspire 2920

   The output of   pstack core  will of interest.
Have you verified the MD5SUM of your downloaded ISO ?
It can also be a media fault.

I did an upgrade to nv101 ( 0.7.1b) as previously mentioned in a mail thread
After I boot ( this is a VMWare VM) I get the following messages on the console
svc.startd[7]: svc:/network/datalink-management:default Method
"/lib/svc/method/svc-dlmgmtd" failed with exit status 2

The message above is repeated thrice

Then it says: svc:/network/datalink-management:default transitioned to
maintenance state ( see "svcs -xv" for details )

What would be the best way to fix this?

Thanks for finding a silly oversight that I thought I had rectified.
It is simple to
workaround this problem.
login to the console prompt using the username and password that you created
during install (not root).
Now su - to root.
Execute cp /usr/bin/i86/ksh93 /sbin/sh
reboot

I just fixed it in the repository.

I applied the fix that you ,mentioned in the mail.
While the svc problem is now fixed, there are a couple of problems
that have now arisen

1) The old boot env (labelled Belenix b93) does not boot anymore. ( it
does boot, but I see an error message for < a second and then it
reboots )

2) The new env (labelled :"opensolaris-1") does boot, but it boots
very slowly while my CPU and disk usage jack up. Not made an
scientific measurements but I would say it takes almost thrice as long
to boot.

3) Upon reaching KDM login my it creates siome problem with the
Keymap. My TAB key becomes the delete key and my caps lock is raised
and then becomes unusable. Thus I am unable to log in.


I am using BeleniX as a 32 bit VM within VMware server 1.0.6

Can you please help me out with this?
Or would it be ok to revert the VM back to the previously working b93
state and try to compile Qt4 etc on that?

I'd say you go ahead ahead with b93 and get the QT thing working. We
can always fix Belenix issues on your laptop when we all meet next (in
the worst case).

I am inclined to use Solaris Express now. I have very limited time (
remember I have my KDE4 book to complete) thus I dont want any future
problems to crop up.

The old boot env will not boot. There was a hostid related integration into
a recent SNV build. So once that is booted the hostid gets changed on the
same machine. Thus the earlier build will fail since it will compute a different
hostid on the same hardware. I do not yet know of a way to force the kernel
to use this pool regardless.

I'd recommend just do the build using vanilla 0.7.1. You do not need the
latest SNV builds to build KDE. If you do it with SX and we have a problem
later to do that on BeleniX it will be more of a last minute problem before
FOSS.IN.

The KDE4 WOS will build on vanilla BeleniX 0.7.1 with of course the devel
packages installed:

spkg install devel java5 lang-common SUNWuiu8

Uninstall the previous spkg first with a pkgrm SFEspkg
and then install this spkg using pkgadd -d .
