Yesterday I played around with getting the latest version of Skype for Linux (1.4beta) working on a Centos 3.8 lx zone. It all works at the moment except for sound :( A slight show stopper for Skype....

doug at lnx2> skype
ALSA lib ctl_oss.c:390:(_snd_ctl_oss_open) Cannot get mixer info for device

Hopefully I will be able to reply in a few days with a fix. If I remember the steps to get it working are -

1) Build and install
    gcc 4.2.1
    alsa-lib-1.0.14a
    alsa-plugins-1.0.14
    libxml2-sources-2.6.29
    libsigc++-2.0.17
    dbus-1.0.2 (needs some configuring)
    qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.0
        Edit qt-x11-opensource-src-4.3.0/mkspecs/common/g++.conf - make QMAKE_CFLAGS_USE_PRECOMPILE +=
        The pre-compiled headers seems to break a build with gcc 4.2.1

2) Download skype-1.4.0.94.tar.bz2
    copy skype to /usr/bin
    mkdir /usr/share/skype
    copy sounds to /usr/share/skype
    copy skype.desktop to /usr/share/applications
    copy icons to /usr/share/skype
    copy skype.conf to /etc/dbus-1/system.d

3) Reboot the lx zone

4) as you - ssh -X <lx zonename> and run skype
