The server is running in domain mode.  The Domain controller has SFU 3.5 installed and the Solaris server connects via NIS for user mapping which is working properly

Each workstation logs in with a different user.

Mapping shares manually works, as does browsing by UNC.  However, the application does not use a mapped drive, but opens each output file by UNC.  Once the application receives this response (with Error=2) it stops with a popup requiring manual intervention to restart.
