[cifs-discuss] Can't log in to cifs server share even locally

So I tried Samba but the server hostname wouldn't show up in the workgroup, even though connecting to the IP worked fine.  

To compare results I tried the CIFS server, and the hostname shows up in the workgroup, but I can't log in.  Even logging into the share locally as root doesn't work.

What mistake have I made!
