[cifs-discuss] Spurious network password error

Hi all,

I have a SunFire x2200M2 with StorageTek SAS HBA sitting in front of a 24 drive SAS/SATA JBOD. Zpool and ZFS file systems configured and working. CIFS share seems to work as advertised. OS version:

Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.11 snv_89 October 2007
bfu'ed from /root/bfu/b89/archives-nightly-osol-nd/i386/ on 2008-05-14
Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.11 snv_86 January 2008

I have joined the domain and configured the CIFS server to export shares to some windows servers.

The windows servers seem to work reasonably well (transferred several TB over time) but on rare occasion I get a windows event log error like this:

Failed to compact account 101000576. An exception was caught while processing the account:
Archive file operation (opening archive) failed with an unexpected error.
Archive file \\Sfx2200m2\imv8server1data\Customers\76\0101000576\archives\4830c430.arc, Account 101000576, Archive 1211155504.
Error: (86) The specified network password is not correct.

(Only the last line is the important piece)

If I follow the UNC on the windows box, the file is there and available.

I get absolutely no errors (that I can find) on the Solaris side.

As far as I can tell, the windows Domain Controller is up and running just fine with no issues.

Any thoughts on how to track this down?

Best regards,

- Steve

P.S. As an attempt to fix this, I removed the ability for the windows server to request OPLOCKs by modifying the registry. This had little to no effect on the problem and is probably a red-herring.
