Even the early SVR4 printing system was enough to do almost anything, with the addition
of ghostscript, an open-source no-spooling-on-client lpr client (whose name eludes me),
and a few scripts and C programs; so I've never had any trouble getting good results from any
PostScript printer or any printer supported by ghostscript.

What it wasn't, was one-command (or point-and-click) to do whatever you wanted.

Still, it would be better to work for improvements to the native printing system (of which AFAIK
quite a few have already been made, although my print server is still running Solaris 9, so I don't
know about the latest printing system redo) than to have people installing CUPS or lprNG all over
the place.

If 99% of people could just use it out of the box with minimal, straightforward setup, it would
certainly be one of those things that would enlarge the useful talent base for SA work with the OS,
thus substantially reducing most customers' (perceived or actual TCO) and support problems.
