The Companion packages built with SVN repository version 157 on Nevada 76 are now available
on the Companion Download Center page. The tarball is dated 20080131. The Content page and BuildCCD page have been updated as well.

Message-ID: <16514075.1202783411301.JavaMail.Twebapp@oss-app1>
This is a code review request for an update of the afio package to version 2.5. The webrev is at
http://companion.sunfreeware.com/downloads/afiowebrev/
Details:
1. Source code updated.
2. METADATA file added.
3. pkginfo.tmpl file updated.
This builds correctly in a nightly on NV 81. The package created installs properly and
produces a working afio binary.

Steve,
Wouldn't it be better to change the way this is built
so it is the same as all the other packages in the
gate, ie. uncompress the tarball during the build in a
Makefile.sfw file (rather than have all the source
files uncompressed in the gate). It will then be
easier to update next time around (in another 6 years
time :-) )

An extra \ found its way into the pkgdefs/Makefile file. This has been removed. See
http://companion.sunfreeware.com/downloads/makefilewebrev/
This makes no difference to nightly builds.

I have redone this update along the lines of Paul's suggestion. The
new webrev is at
http://companion.sunfreeware.com/downloads/afiowebrev/
The details are:
1. All afio source files have been removed.
2. The afio 2.5 source file has been added.
3. A METADATA has been added.
4. The Makefile.sfw file has been modified to fit the normal build method.
5. A patch to the CFLAGS in the Makefile has been added.
6. An install-sfw file has been added.
7. The pkgdefs/SFWafio/pkginfo.tmpl file has been updated.
8. Copyright and version numbers updated where needed. SCCS ids removed.
A nightly build is clean on NV 81.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me when this package will be integrated? I am porting
ejabberd package to Solaris, it uses Erlang. I checked CCD repository,
it seemed the package wasn't integrated yet.
BTW, I found, due to 6536383 putback, only the latest Erlang release
(otp_src_R12B-1) can be compiled on latest snv build.
Thanks

by March? If not(I guess so, :( ), I need to reschedule my

Unless your task is to also add stuff to the companion cd, it
shouldn't be depending on anything on the companion cd.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out. While this is obvious, I
didn't realize it until you mentioned it.
I will consider to use rahul's diffs to integrate Erlang to
Solaris if necessary.

Yep. Erlang would need to go into the SFW consolidation,
since that is where ejabberd is headed.

http://companion.sunfreeware.com/downloads/sudowebrev/
Changes were simple -
1. Update of sudo source code file.
2. Copyrights and version numbers changed where needed.
Nightly build on NV 81 is clean. A test pkgadd works and creates a working
sudo program.

This is a code review request for the update of the SFWsnort package to version 2.8.0.2.
The webrev is at
http://companion.sunfreeware.com/downloads/snortwebrev/
Details -
This is a very simple update. The source code file is replaced with the latest one, version
numbers are updated and copyrights changed where needed. The source code file
is now .gz instead of .bz2 because the snort website uses .gz and does not offer .bz2.
A nightly build on NV81 works with no errors and a pkgadd install creates a working
snort system.

Looks good to me: I assume u have used a gz tarball
rather than bz2 as there isn't a bz2 one.

This is a code review request for the update of the Companion SFWsquid package from version 2.5.STABLE7 to version 2.6.STABLE18. The webrev is at
http://companion.sunfreeware.com/downloads/squidwebrev/
Details -
1. Source file updated. .gz compression used since that is what the Squid site offers.
2. METADATA file added
3. Version numbers updated where needed (called 2.6.18 in pkginfo.tmpl)
4. Copyright dates changed and SCCS ids removed when required
5. .SUFFIXES line removed in Makefile.sfw - no longer needed
6. RunAccel removed in install-sfw and prototype_com - not part of 2.6.x anymore
7. cachemgr.conf added in install-sfw and protoytpe_com - new in 2.6.x
8. location of squidclient and cachemgr.cgi files fixed in install-sfw
A nightly build on NV 81 works and a test pkgadd appears to create a working
squid system.

This code review replaces the previous SFWsquid post. It has been determined that SFWsquid should be removed from the Companion CD since a working squid is now part of Nevada 78 and higher. The code review is

Looks okay to me, except the 'copyright' year needs
changing in the 3 changed files.

Hi Steve,
why not to integrate Squid 3.0 to Companion as opposite to 2.6 in SFW?

The policy used to be, if it was in solaris proper
then it should not be on the CCD even if solaris
proper's version was way out of date (but that was a
few years ago now).

I know, but Squid 3.0 is a bit different from 2.x line, so Companion
could serve as "testing" platform for SFW here.

Which for years has been one of the prime arguments of the
Solaris bashers. I'd much rather see a "SUNW stable, SFW current"
type of philosophy. Now if this policy was explicitly stated
somewhere... :-)

Given the move towards a network repository based packaging system, I
think the right thing to do is include Squid 3.0 as a separate version
in that repository. That can most easily be accomplished by
incorporating that version into SFW alongside the existing 2.6
version. Perl is an example of such a component (although it currently
is delivered out of ON, the principle is the same.)
At this point forward, I don't see a need to continue adding components
into the Companion CD for Nevada. Instead, those components should be
integrating into SFW (as part of the modernization work a number of us
have been working on, we intend to support tagging packages with who
supports them along with perhaps a support level.)

There are severel possible issues with integration in SFW:
a) to complete PSARC for software which could be considered as not so
stable (more in development process)
b) on running system you don't need both Squid versions as opposite to
Perl or Apache, but with integration to SFW (/usr) you will need to
solve this co-existence. With "experimental" CCD (/opt) it will be
easier
c) SFW mess itself (large repository of independent components in one
big nightly)
I understand that CCD should die, but there is already some Squid in
CCD, so no new software will be added. And there is no "experimental"
version of repository in osol.org yet, just SFW. CCD could serve in such
way for some time. Also CCD could be exported as separate IPS
repository.
But yes, just an idea, nothing more :-)
Best regards,
Milan

I think, actually, it might be better served as a one-or-the-other
installation, unless there's ever any good reason why you'd have two copies
installed at once. The incorporations defining the latest Indiana / Nevada
builds could constrain squid to being 2.6, but people could choose 3.x
instead if they so chose.

The scenario I was thinking was where you might run different versions
of Squid on different ports of the same system (one in production, one
in dev?) Of course, I would prefer putting such services in different
zones :-) but that does mean extra IP addresses.
