where NICinstance must be three numbers, and you have four.

And VNIC instances can only go to 899.

And you create a VNIC on a VLAN, not make a VNIC look like a VLAN

dladm create-vnic -d nxge1444001 .... 444

where I am artificially calling it vnic444.
