Thank you all for the help. I realise that I'm not alone. Regarding the use of -p0 or -s2 for mounting the disc: that doesn't make a difference. Normal CD- or DVDROM media will mount with both designations. At least I can here.
Now for the issue that Gnome keeps popping up a format dialog, triggered by volmgt when I insert these CD-RW media, *in whichever drive, even a DVD-ROM*. I certainly believe that the recognition algorithms must have some flaw, but at the moment I can't determine exactly what the flaw is and where it's located. I'm suspicious of the driver, like the last post seem to confirm.
I will not download the Solaris 06/06 stable release, because I'm a developer and developers are told to get the latest and greatest Solaris Express. So I do that :)
I'm going to wait for tamarack to arrive, use discs that work, and keep an eye on the changelog...
