Binary downloads for JDS Vermillion build 44 are now available from:
http://dlc.sun.com/osol/jds/downloads/current/

Spec files used in the build are also available.
This build requires snv_40 or greater.

This build is based on GNOME 2.14.1.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR BUILD 44b:
1) It is recommended that this build only be installed on snv_42 (yeah, I know you don't have it)
There are issues related to GConf initialisation which, if you login before it is finished, render the desktop useless.
2) A new version of the OpenSSL libraries will be in snv_43. Vermillion 44b was built with these new libraries so you must install the SUNWopenssl-libraries manully before installing Vermillion 44b. Most importantly, you must *NOT* remove the existing SUNWopenssl-libraries package when installing the new version, otherwise pkgadd and pkgrm will fail. When installing this package, choose to ignore the conflicting files (under /usr/sfw/lib). The package is under the 'openssl-pkgs' directory and in a download/SUNWopenssl-libraries-[x86|sparc].tar.gz tarball.
3) As root, run "svcadm disable svc:/system/postrun:default" to disable the postrun service and avoid install time messages.
4) The ownership of a lot of files and directories has been changed from the insecure root:other to root:bin or root:sys. This results in 'attribute change only' conflicts during install as non-JDS packages have not been changed yet. The 'install-jds' script must be run with the '--force --ignore' options to install the packages while ignoring these conflicts. When the other packages make their changes this will cease to be a problem.

Changes between build 44 and 44b
===========================
- Due to a gconf bug, 6444179, the postinstall scripts for all modules have been changed to ensure that login is blocked until the required postinstall scripts are finished. Without this blocking, logging in before they complete renders the desktop unusable.

Known issues
===========
- File/dir owners changed in most packages. This results in 'attribute change only' errors during installation if '--ignore' is not used.
- 6445994 - bad/missing gconf settings for evolution
- 6446042 - poor menu text rendering in 8bit mode using default nimbus theme - thunderbird
- 6446041 - poor menu text rendering in 8bit mode using default nimbus theme - firefox
- 6446043 - several applications crash on x86 in 8bit using certain themes
- 6446011 - gok cannot be launched from menus
- 6446013 - cannot launch gok
