As an update, I've just moved CSW GNOME for Blastwave.org up to GNOME 2.15.4. (aka GNOME 2.16 beta). Still some work to do to finish up a few of the desktop apps, but mostly everything is there to get you started.

This GNOME 2.15.4 build will work on "all" official Sun SPARC v8/v9 and x86/AMD64 workstation hardware - and Sun Solaris 8 and higher operating systems.

GNOME 2.16 will require a migration to DBUS/HAL and a few features like the Composite Manager in MetaCity may only work properly with some hardware. Beagle and some of the other apps will come into play as well...

Optional requirements for additional functionality
DBus 0.35 - allow other applications to control and query apps
HAL 0.2 - Removable media (e.g. portable audio player) support 
libgpod - enhanced iPod support 
Avahi 0.5 or Howl - DAAP music sharing 
libsoup 2.2 - DAAP music sharing and AudioScrobbler/Last.fm support 
libnotify 0.2.1- Notification bubbles for track changes, podcast downloading and other events 
libmusicbrainz 2.1.0 - Audio cd information lookup
