I loaded the Update 4 patch, 120186-08, on top of the StarOffice 8 internal
distribution.  I could not reproduce the problem on a Quadro FX 4500 with
the 1.0-9725 public beta driver.

Some things to check:

  1. What locale are you using?  I'm using en_US.UTF-8.

  2. Do you have render enabled (grep RENDER /var/log/Xorg.0.log)?

  3. Does it happen using the bundled nv driver?

I tested by creating a new text document in StarOffice Writer.  I entered
text, changed fonts, added some graphics, but could not reproduce the
problem where the toolbar disappears.
