FWIW, you can have tear-off menus in JDS as well, they're just
disabled by default. You just need to set the /desktop/gnome/
interface/menus_have_tearoff gconf key to 'true', and it'll take
effect on any GNOME apps launched thereafter.
(I think this should still work anyway, haven't tried in a while.)
