As root, expand the tarball and install the packages. Uninstall existing packages first.

$ su
# pkgrm SUNWgnome-im-client-devel SUNWgnome-im-client
# tar -xf gaim-packages.tar
# pkgadd -d . SUNWgnome-im-client SUNWgnome-im-client-devel
# exit
$ /usr/bin/gaim &

Now configure gaim - add the appropriate account (Yahoo, AIM, MSN etc).
