One of my long, long standing complaints against gnome-term is that it
does not support anything like the -ksh mode for dtterm. I use emacs
keybindings in my shell, and I very, very much prefer to be able to have
my Meta- chords converted to ESC- prefixes like dtterm does. Actually,
these days I'm using xterm with XTerm*eightBitInput: false in my Xresources.
(Yes, I know this compromises my ability to use certain international
keystrokes, but I am exclusively a US ASCII user, and happily give up
the ability to enter UTF-8 at the keyboard in exchange for a more useful
binding for Meta.)
This is enough of a stopper for me, that I refuse to use either
gnome-terminal or the KDE terminal (for the same reason).
At one point I even wrote some diffs for gnome-terminal to fix this, but
they've long since stagnated and I don't even know if I still can find them.
