I too have been working in the SFW gate for the first time and was
some what surprised by the additional amount of work required to update
the static lists and install script. But even more of a surprise to me was
the lack of documentation on just how the lists were initially
created. I'm working on providing the latest version of BIND 9.3.
The SFW documentation that I did find told a story of how the
gate would ideally work, be similar to ON, but precise step-by-step
details are not provided.
Overall the time taken in the creation of the file lists could be much
improved with better documentation and automation.
Too that with my changes I have updated BIND's Makefile.sfw with new
targets which build new lists and compare them against the static
lists. Halting the build should the two differ; which should only
happen when integrating a newer release. Similar mods have also been
made for the packaging directories with documentation in the README
file.
