[desktop-discuss] GUI session fails

I'm not sure exactly what has been broken.  In my infinite wisdom, I decided I'd try playing around with the mesalibs package off blastwave.org.  Since that time, whenever I try to login to a gnome or CDE session, the login flashes to terminal once, then back to the login screen.  X seems to be displayed just fine, but it won't let me into any GUI session besides the failsafe.  I don't see any logs dumping errors so at this point I'm completely lost.  The mesalibs have long since been removed as well, and I've tried both Xsun and Xorg.  Any help would be much appreciated.
