The good news is that someone will be working on updated KDE packages. Stefan
Teleman was recently hired by Sun to work on SFW/Companion CD, and I'm sure
he'll be working on getting a newer version in there as soon as possible.

Not sure about the decent official package management system; install-discuss
might be a better list [and I know there is a mutual agreement that we need to
be working on this too].
