Here is something weird...

If I run gdmsetup as root. it seems to save configuration changes to
/etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf

However, gdm is ignoring them. For example, I changed the type of greeter
from gdmgreeter to gdmlogin for both remote and local logins. But gdm
still uses gdmgreeter. (Its still all full screen kind of blueish green with the sun
microsystems logo at the top left corner of the login screen after a reboot) Does gdm 
use some other configuration file than /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf ?

My gdm.conf file has:

# The greeter for local (non-xdmcp) logins.  Change gdmlogin to gdmgreeter to
# get the new graphical greeter.
#Greeter=/usr/bin/gdmgreeter
Greeter=/usr/bin/gdmlogin
# The greeter for xdmcp logins, usually you want a less graphically intensive
# greeter here so it's better to leave this with gdmlogin
#RemoteGreeter=/usr/bin/gdmlogin
RemoteGreeter=/usr/bin/gdmlogin

Many thanks in advance for any ideas of why I would be seeing this behavior?
